Metal Forming - A Fresh Look at Spiculums with: Betty Helen Longhi

Master Class - If you've ever marveled at the elegant shape of a calla lily, you're familiar with a shape called a spiculum. The spiculum shape is an elegant, sweeping, curved or conical tubular form, which can be created by anticlastic and/or synclastic forming as well as tube making techniques.

The process covers several ways of forming metal thus it is a great introduction to more complex forms created in metal. By using hammers and stakes, you'll explore the range of spiculum forms that can be achieved to add dimension to your jewelry forms.

We will begin by addressing the basic forming processes and move beyond them to experiment with additional options. In this new arena there are endless possibilities for making bracelets, collars, earrings, beads, vessels and abstract sculptural forms. The workshop is appropriate for all metals students but some experience in forming metal would be helpful.
